Must & Can & Have to

Must – Deber

1.    We must wear trainers here.
Debemos usar zapatillas deportivas aquí.

2.    You mustn’t eat here.
No debes comer aquí.

3.    Everyone must be quiet.
Todos deben estar en silencio.

4.    You mustn’t be late.
No debes llegar tarde.

5.    People must wait their turn.
La gente debe esperar su turno.

6.    You must wear a swimsuit at the pool.
Debes usar traje de baño en la piscina.

7.    You mustn’t run in the cafeteria at school.

Have to – Tener que

            Con "Have to" usamos el infinitivo completo: to go, to eat, to run. 

“Don’t have to” NO significa lo mismo que “mustn’t”.

  • Don’t have to = no es necesario

  • Mustn’t = está prohibido


       Estructura

  • I do not have to study.

  • You do not have to work today.

  • He does not have to wake up early.

  • She does not have to cook.

En tercera persona singular (he, she, it) usamos does not.


 Formas contraídas

En inglés hablado y escrito informalmente, usamos contracciones:

  • do not → don’t

  • does not → doesn’t

Ejemplos:

  • I don’t have to study.

  • You don’t have to come.

  • He doesn’t have to work tomorrow.

  • She doesn’t have to clean her room.
