What Did You Do on Sunday?

I had a very good day on Sunday. My two brothers are visiting me, and they like to ride bikes. Of course, I ride a bike everywhere, so it was fun to have them ride with me in the countryside around Valencia. There are lots of fields around Valencia and many little villages. There are bike paths that go to most of these villages.

We began our ride by riding past Mestalla Stadium where Valencia Club de Fútbol plays. A few blocks north of the stadium, the city ends and there are fields. There is a bike path that goes north through these fields. The area is called L’Horta valenciana. Farmers grow artichokes, tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, lettuce, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, and everything else that we eat in Valencia. I almost forgot, there are a lot of orange trees in this area, thousands and thousands of orange trees. Valencia is famous for oranges.

Our first stop was at the village of Almassera. In the main square of the village there is a beautiful house called Casa Llopis. It is decorated with many colored tiles that are made in Valencia. The square was full of people on Sunday and there wasn’t a single chair at the cafés. I wanted a cup of coffee, but we had to go to another village. We bought churros at a little stand near the metro station. He is there every Sunday.

 

We rode to Albalat dels Sorells. There is a cool castle in the village. We stopped at a café, and I finally had a cup of coffee with my chocolate churro. I was very happy after that. From that village, we rode to the beach and headed back to Valencia. We passed through Port Saplaya. I think the Pope lives there.

It was cloudy in the morning when we left Valencia, but the sun came out later and it was sunny and warm. We have very good weather in Valencia.
