The New Bike

Margaret has a new bicycle. It is red and goes very fast. It was a gift for her birthday. She is 12 years old. Her old bike was too small. Her new bike is perfect. It is a mountain bike. With a mountain bike, you can ride in the forest and in the mountains. You don’t have to ride on roads or bike paths.

 Margaret wants to ride her new mountain bike in the Turia Park trail that goes to Riba Rojas. Riba Rojas is a little village about 12 kilometers from Valencia.

The bike path goes along the river Turia. There are not many people on the trail when Margaret leaves Valencia. It is very beautiful, but it is a long bike ride. When Margaret arrives in Riba Rojas, she goes to a restaurant and has lunch.

After lunch, she gets on her bike and starts to ride back to Valencia. It starts to rain and Margaret has to stop and wait under a tree for the rain to stop. There are two other people on bikes under the same tree. Margaret talks to them.

The people are from Holland. They are visiting Valencia for the first time. They like to ride bikes and they read that Valencia is a great place for biking.

"We rode to the beaches yesterday south of Valencia. Pinedo and El Saler are beautiful beaches and there is a good bike trail that goes along the beach," the Dutch girl said.

"We had lunch at a café on the beach. After lunch, we went swimming in the sea," the boy said.

When it stopped raining, Margaret and her new friends from Holland rode together back to Valencia.

"I don't know if we can find our hotel in Valencia," the Dutch girl said.

Margaret lived near The City of Arts and Sciences. Her new friends were staying at hotel in Cabanyal near the beach.

"I live near Cabanyal. I can go with you," Margaret said.

The Summer of 2022

 

 This summer is very hot. It is the hottest summer on record for Valencia. Do you like the heat? Do you prefer cold weather or hot weather? Do you like summer or winter?

 I like summer. It is the best season of the year and I like it much more than winter. My house can be very cold in the winter. In the summer, it isn’t too hot in Valencia unless you are in the sun. If you are in the shade, it is cooler. I don’t have air conditioning in my house, but I have two fans to keep me cool.

How is the weather in other parts of Spain? Was it hot in Burgos? In the north of Spain, it isn't too hot. It is much cooler in Asturias than in Valencia. It didn't rain very much this summer. It rained last week a couple of times in the evening. There was lightning and thunder. Are you afraid of storms? I am afraid of tornadoes, but there are no tornadoes in Valencia. We are lucky.

When it’s hot outside, it’s important to drink a lot of water. Why should you drink a lot of water when it is hot? You should drink a lot of water when it’s hot outside so that you don’t dehydrate. It is very dangerous to be dehydrated.
