Valery is eleven years old. She lives in Valencia, Spain, on the coast of the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. She has one brother. Her brother is fourteen. He goes to a different school near their house in Cánovas. She goes to school in El Saler near the beach, south of Valencia. Her school is far; she takes the bus to school every day.
She likes to cook. She likes to make spaghetti all'Assassina. Italian food is very good. She likes the food at her five-star school cafeteria. The food is very good and very healthy.
She plays badminton two days a week with her friend Julia. Valery wants to play for Spain in the Olympics.
She also likes to study English. She likes to ride her bike to the Central Market. There are a lot of bike paths in Valencia. She can even ride her bike to her school.
She goes to her village often. She loves her village and playing with her cousins.
She is a good student and always knows the answer when the teacher asks a question. She raises her hand.
The other students don’t like English class. They don’t like the teacher. One day, the students protest outside the school.
The English teacher walks by, and the students insult him. The English teacher is afraid of the students. He is a coward. John is a chicken.
“Bawk, bawk, bawk,” the students shout.
Valery helps the teacher. She tells her friends that she loves English class. She recites a poem in English.
“Life is like a thorny rose.

The students like the poem. They like Valery. She is a hero.
